Trump and the end of tenure

Trump’s arguments about the alleged ills of U.S. education abound: “Wokeness” in education needs to end.  Diversity, equity, and inclusion offices need to be shut down.  “Left-wing indoctrination” should be discontinued.  Transgender athletes should, in his opinion, be kept out of girls’ sports.  On and on it goes.  One of the worst consequences of this administrational direction is arguably that the Trump administration could end tenure for professors, lecturers, instructors, and other educators.

This would be accomplished through federal defunding of educational institutions that do not fall in line with what Trump wants.  Instead, Trump promises “massive funding preferences” for states and schools that, instead, promise to fight for “patriotic” education.  Trump even wants to create a new credentialing body to certify teachers who “embrace patriotic values” instead of earning traditional tenure.

While some question whether Trump really can and will take these or other arguably extreme steps in the educational field, with the broad powers he now holds over all three government branches – including the court system through the conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court – significant changes and legal challenges are likely to take place soon.  In fact, some courts have already halted several of Biden’s educational initiatives.

For you, this could mean that your tenure, if you have already earned it, may be questioned.  Those of you on tenure track or with other previously established rights are likely to face equally uncertain times.  Of course, this is an extremely stressful situation to face while you also have to focus on doing your job the best you can while facing an often increasingly hostile partial student body and more.

To best secure your rights, contact Myanna Dellinger or another experienced tenure professor who can best help you take relevant steps urgently to protect your rights and, if you face tenure or promotion denial, help you with the many procedural, factual, and legal challenges in that respect.  Myanna successfully fought for and obtained tenure herself in a politically conservative part of the nation.  Contact her for a free consultation!
